Why So Serious?

Why So Serious?

Here we go again, society’s sensitivity levels rise to new heights, this time attacking the new children’s film, Peter Rabbit, for including a humorous scene, allegedly mocking kids with food allergies and promoting bullying. Hey society, yuck.

Read for yourself here.

My level of infuriation seems to reach new highs, daily. If I hear one more plea for special treatment or cry of outrage over political incorrectness or lack of sensitivity toward an issue, my head may explode. I genuinely think people just like boo-hoo-ing, no matter what the issue, just to find some other idiot online that agrees with them.  Rant, rave, bitch, moan, complain.  It’s a never-ending, vicious cycle.  I can’t be the only one that feels this way, right?

Let’s be frank here, if you want to, you can claim offense at anything. That doesn’t mean you’re entitled to. I’m offended at your level of offense, so allow these puppets to illustrate my sentiment toward you and your quick-to-take-offense attitudes…

Having food allergies would suck, and a lot of people have to alter their lives because of it. That’s inconvenient, and potentially dangerous, but grow up and deal with that challenge that life has given you. Has anyone ever actually solved a problem by simply complaining about it? No, but that doesn’t stop people from their daily rants on Nextdoor. Here’s today’s gem from my neighborhood.

These everyday offenses are the equivalent of handing out trophies for participation. Undeserved. Two words world – lighten up.

In the spirit of Jerry Springer, here’s my final thought:

If, as a society, we’ve become so touchy that we’re afraid to express ourselves openly, we’ve gone too far. Life is full of opposition, struggle and conflict, and it’s important we face them in order to grow. Adversity creates perseverance. Some battles are certainly worth fighting, some challenges so great they demand protest, but let’s pick our battles wisely and not throw out a caution flag to every careless act that offends us, because it cheapens the value of the real fights. If you think an animated rabbit with an allergy to blackberries has gone too far, why don’t you revisit some old classics from Merry Melodies. They’re full of racism, sexism, and extreme violence and we’re all just fine. Let’s collectively take a breath; a proverbial ‘chill pill.’ Instead of expressing outrage over everything that offends, why don’t we spend that time and energy into doing something positive for the world? The last thing the world needs is another opinionated blogger!   In the meantime, before making our next petty complaint, let’s all acknowledge that THIS is not only still a thing, but a symbol of our nation’s capital.  (Ironic, isn’t it?)
